At Guanavista, innovation meets conservation. When joining our community, you gain a front row seat to the magical phenomenon of Olive Ridley Sea Turtle arribadas (arrivals). Every year, millions of turtles nest right outside our front door. Our commitment to preserving the natural habitat for these turtles and other local wildlife is evident in our innovative lighting approach. Low fixtures, strategically placed, ensure no intrusive light reaches the beach, prioritizing the safety of our cherished turtle residents. The warm and friendly lighting with long wavelengths enhances the overall ambiance, creating an inviting atmosphere for both residents and wildlife.
Acceptable lamps emit amber-colored light with long wavelengths. This warm light not only blends seamlessly with the bark of the trees in Guanavista’s forest but also plays a crucial role in preserving the natural circadian rhythm of the turtles.
We understand the significance of maintaining a delicate balance between human activities and the conservation of our local wildlife.
By adhering to these lighting practices, we aim to create a sustainable and harmonious coexistence with the olive ridley turtles, ensuring their continued protection.
We’re proud to share that VIDA design studio crafted our masterplan with the turtle protection lighting plan in mind. We’re working alongside Biologist Vanessa Bezy, founder of the Wildlife Conservation Association (WCA) in Nosara. Vanessa, a National Geographic Explorer, has studied sea turtles at Ostional for over a decade and supports our measures for turtle protection.
Vanessa’s mission with WCA is to inspire sustainable living through research, community outreach, and immersive educational experiences. Her vision is to lead and steward wildlife conservation locally and internationally. Collaborating with Vanessa, we integrate scientific research into our community to inspire the behavioral change needed to protect our planet.
