Celebrating Costa Rican Masquerade Tradition in Garza

At Guanavista, we love honoring local culture—and nothing says tradition like a Costa Rican masquerade tradition celebration in our Garza Community.

These colorful, oversized masks—known as mascaradas—have deep roots in Costa Rican history. Dating back to the 19th century, they were first used to satirize authority and reflect social commentary.

Over time, the tradition evolved. Today, mascaradas bring people together through laughter, music, and dance. They represent creativity, identity, and community spirit.

In Garza, our little festival captured the heart of this Costa Rican masquerade tradition. Neighbors gathered to watch the lively figures dance through the streets, accompanied by rhythmic drumming and joyful cheers.

Children ran alongside, amazed by the giant characters. Adults smiled with nostalgia, remembering the same traditions from their own childhoods.

At Guanavista, we believe preserving cultural heritage is just as important as building sustainable futures. Events like this remind us where we come from—and the strength we find in unity.

Thank you to everyone in the Garza Community for making this celebration unforgettable. Pura vida always!
