Sustainable reforestation: Nosara Green and Guanavista

Another exciting project is currently underway within the Guanavista community as we announce a dynamic partnership with the esteemed Costa Rican company, “Nosara Green. We reached a significant milestone this week, advancing in the implementation of our sustainable reforestation strategy.

Nosara Green, a Costa Rican company owned by biologist Andres Santana and agronomist Maria, is driving environmental conservation and committing.

Nosara Green’s mission revolves around influencing landscaping practices in a restorative manner, bridging the gap between beauty and environmental responsibility.

The founders aim to create connectivity between developed areas and existing forests, seeking to mitigate the impact of urban development on protected areas.

Sustainable Collaboration for Biodiversity Restoration

The Guanavista property, like many other farms in Costa Rica, was once a Pochote plantation lacking biodiversity. Achieving a balance between development and nature is crucial for a sustainable future. Through our efforts at Guanavista, we aim to contribute to the regeneration of local ecosystems.

Nosara Green will collaborate with our landscape master planning team VIDA. VIDA’s expertise in sustainable landscape design will guide both the aesthetic and functional aspects of our project. Nosara Green will then implement these plans, ensuring our commitment to environmental conservation is evident not only in our mission but also in the green spaces we create.

“We are honored and grateful to be a part of the Guanavista family. Our shared ideals of wildlife conservation, ecosystem restoration, and regenerative development, that promote biodiversity, make this a truly unique opportunity. There’s no greater joy than working with like-minded individuals towards a common goal of sustainable living in one of Costa Rica’s most magical beaches”  Maria Mora – agronomist and co owner Nosara Green.

Nosara Green has successfully undertaken various projects transcending traditional landscaping, including sustainable reforestation. Notably, they spearheaded an agroforestry initiative, promoting biodiversity and sustainable practices in Costa Rica’s South Pacific.

Within our newly built greenhouse, a dedicated germination section will serve as the heart of our efforts.

We aim to collect seeds from the property and surrounding areas, fostering over 24 thousand diverse trees.

Biodiversity Enrichment Through Thoughtful Plant Selection

We choose Balsa, Guarumo, and Gallinazo for rapid growth and their unique ability to attract wildlife in our pioneer species selection.

This initiative by Nosara Green it’s a commitment to sustained growth, ensuring ongoing reforestation success and creating a resilient environment.

These pioneer species are expected to attract howler monkeys, kinkajous, and over 28 other animal species, particularly birds and bats, crucial for seed dispersal.

Simultaneously, slower-growing secondary species like Espavel, Aceituno, and Ojoche will serve as a vital food source. Additionally, native flower species attract pollinators such as bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies, crucial to an ecosystem.

For individuals inspired to make a positive impact in their local environment, reaching out to environmental NGO (Non-Government Organizations) or consulting with restoration experts is a great starting point. Nosara Green welcomes inquiries and collaboration, always open to sharing knowledge for a greener future. They emphasize the profound impact of even the smallest contributions, reminding everyone that every plant, be it a tree or flowering shrub, makes a difference. So, plant that seed today and play your part in creating a more sustainable and biodiverse world.
